THE GARETH THOMAS CASE: HIV AND THE LAW

30 minutes | Monday, 6 February 2023

Former Wales rugby captain Gareth Thomas has settled a legal dispute with an ex-partner who accused him of "deceptively" transmitting HIV to him.Ian Baum alleged Mr Thomas hid his HIV status and "failed to take reasonable care" to ensure he did not pass it on.The former British and Irish Lion said he had settled the case for £75,000 plus costs, but it was not an admission of liability or guilt. The reaction in the media and the comments on social media have been devastating for the mental health of people living with HIV, already too often marginalised and treated with suspicion. In this episode Graeme chats to Sarah Macadam the CEO of Thames Valley Positive support and Jessica Harding, the deputy CEO of the HIV charity. The two also host the award nominated podcast "The HIV podcast" and specialise in guiding both their service users and podcast listeners around the world through the legalities, facts and history of HIV. Here we hear their expert take on the issues this case has brought up.---THIS IS OUTCAST WORLD ---Like and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and please leave a review.
